Fiesta del Romero in Jalón

- By Jo Pugh

This Saturday, April 27, Jalón celebrates the “The day of the Rosemary”. The Fiesta del Romero is held in honour of Sant Pere Mártir and all are welcome to join in. Townsfolk fill the streets of Jalón in a pilgrimage to the Solana mountain. They bring palm baskets, backpacks and bags to go and collect rosemary branches from the area known as El Fondo, near the first blue bridge. Once the branches are collected, it is time to have a picnic of traditional buns (pea dumplings) or empanadillas filled with peas.

The event begins at 18:00 departing from the town centre.

The following morning a mass will be held in the church in honour of Sant Pere Mártir. By using different artistic techniques, the participants will learn about these threatened species and the environments in which they live.

The activities are in Spanish and are free and open to youngsters aged 6-14 years old. Hector’s dolphin stained glass Hammerhead shark - recycled materials European fish - memory games -
