A COPRODUCED exhibition between the Valencia institute of modern art (IVAM) and Tate Liverpool – Fernand Léger y la vida moderna (Fernand Léger and modern life) – has drawn critical acclaim during its sojourn on Merseyside.

Northern Soul culture website noted: “Léger's vision is gloriously seductive, and Tate Liverpool reveals it in all its optimistic, heavily outlined glory.”

The exhibition has now been transferred to Valencia and opens at the IVAM on May 2 and contains 50 paintings and drawings by the artist, as well as large scale photomurals, films, graphic design and fabrics.

The aim of the exhibition is to demonstrate Léger’s (18811955) unique visual style that gives life to the intense experience and energy in the Parisian metropolis at the beginning of the 20th century.

Additionally, the exhibition presents Léger as a politically engaged artist, with an unwavering belief in the social function of art for the whole world. The exhibition reflects the liveliness of the modern era, as well as Léger’s collaborations with filmmakers and architects such as Le Corbusier and Charlotte Perriand.

The French artist, sculptor and film maker was a contemporary of artists like Pablo Picasso.

The exhibition is curated by Tate Liverpool’s Darren Pih and Laura Bruni.

IVAM is situated at Calle Guillem de Castro, 118, Valencia and is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10.0019.00, except Fridays when it closes at 21.00. It is closed on Mondays.

General admission is €6.
