Athletics championship to be held this weekend at La Nucia
Over six hundred athletes will compete this weekend at the 99th athletics championship of Spain in La Nucia, with a total of 42 different categories.
The best athletes in the country, including Maria Vicente, Fernando Carro, Jorge Ureña, Orlando Ortega and Ana Peleteiro will take part on the new track of ‘Estadi Olímpic Camilo Cano’.
The finals will be both on Saturday August 31 and Sunday September 1, and will be broadcast live on Spanish TV channel Teledeporte TVE.
It will be the last competition before the Athletics World Cup, to be held in Doha, Qatar, at the end of September.
It is the first time in history that this championship will be held in Alicante province.
The doors to the stadium will open at 09:00 on Saturday, with tournaments commencing at 10:00. The competitions will continue into the evening, with the stadium closing at 23:30 on both nights.
The 608 athletes participating in the Championship of Spain will compete in a total of 42 athletic disciplines. Alongside traditional track events, there will be 4 throwing events (javelin, hammer, discus and shot put) also long jump, high jump, triple jump and pole vault .
The men's 10,000 metre race walk final will take place on Saturday at 10:25. in the morning, field events will take place as well as the 100 metres, men’s 5,000 metres and women’s 3,000 metre hurdles.
On Sunday morning the final of the 10,000 metre women’s race walk takes place, and in the afternoon most finals will be held.
The championship will end with the 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m relay events for both men and women.
The sports channel of TVE Teledeporte will be broadcasting live, a total of 12 hours of the championship.
