Projects to repair storm damage
Government money stumped up for Alicante province
THE GOVERNMENT has told Costa Blanca News how it will spend the €2,330,000 provided for Alicante province to repair damage on the coast caused by storms which ravaged the area in September.
A spokeswoman for the ministry for the ecological transition noted that the lion’s share of the cash will be used to remove the massive amount of canes and rubbish washed up on the beaches – as well as repairing promenades, sea walls and access points which were smashed up.
According to the spokeswoman, the repair works at El Mojón beach in Pilar de la Horadada and the promenade at La Mata have already started (the latter project reported in last week’s Costa Blanca News).
She also noted that a ‘massive amount’ of canes are being removed from Almadraba beach in Dénia.
In other cases, town halls such as Guardamar del Segura have carried the clean-up works themselves, removing tonnes sands.
The spokeswoman explained that the next scheduled works will be to remove waste and debris which accumulated on the beaches at Torrevieja and Santa Pola.
They will also make a start on the repairs to the damaged promenades at Orihuela Costa and the access to Rocamar beach in Pilar de la Horadada.
The repair works for the walkway at Cap Negret in Altea, access to Playa de La Fosa in Calpe and the restoration of canes from the of Albufereta beach in Alicante city are in the pipeline
The spokeswoman pointed out that some beaches such as Los Locos in Torrevieja and beaches in Dénia had lost huge amounts of sand and ministry technicians are working on plans to restore these areas.
Beaches and promenades on the Mar Menor have been seriously damaged and the initial repair and clean-up works have already been started by the ministry.
