Levante Golf Society
Oliva Nova - November 1 Oliva Nova was the venue for Levante Golf Society’s latest weekly competition. All available places were taken for this individual Stableford handicap qualifier and starting lists for the next few weeks are already becoming very well subscribed as members are taking advantage of the beautiful late autumn weather.
On the day before England’s rugby disappointment and on the latest day after Brexit didn’t happen, Kenny Kennard decided to ‘swing low’ to stay below the winds and to ‘get it done’ by winning the competition on a score of 36 points. On this occasion Kenny avoided a handicap cut, something that is bound to happen when he decides to give up the distraction of work and play more golf in Spain.
In second place also on 36 points was Siggy Palsson, our man from Iceland (the country not the store), he also took the nearest to the pin prize on hole three. As current holder of the LGS vol-au-vent challenge trophy, Siggy was reminded by Captain Don Larner that at the next running of this challenge (later in November) any assistance from his wife will result in instant disqualification.
John Snelling representing the low handicappers came third on 35 points, with Fiona Sankey and Dave Collie fourth and fifth. Mike Harding once again took the seniors’ prize and Fred Betteridge was closest to the pin on hole sixteen. Surprisingly there were no 2s recorded.
Although there were no handicap cuts, the competitive nature of LGS members was demonstrated by the fact that 21 of the 34 participants scored between 30 and 36 points.
The next four weeks see LGS members playing a team game at Bonalba, the two rounds of the individual Autumn Trophy at Oliva Nova and La Sella and a team game at Alicante.
