Parcent Pilota team

- By Peter James and Sarah

Parcent Pilota team fresh from their winning of the European Cup in Italy last October have now added another cup to their cabinet. That makes it three in 2019. The first Cup for finishing top of the league, second the Grand European Cup, then Sunday December 29 they took the Valencia Regional Cup.

The village town of Orba hosted the final. Its broad main road blocked to the traffic and the 70 metre court was freshly painted.

The TV crews had been setting up from early morning. This pilota final is a very prestigious event and was broadcast live on Spanish TV.

Parcent's opponents were the team from Relleu which is set up high in the mountains inland from Benidorm.

A nice touch, before the match each team was introduced with each individual player taking a step forward as his name was announced. All this while the cameras were rolling.

Pilota is only ever played to ten sets. If ever it goes to a 5-5 then another set decides the winner.

The match after half an hour was even at 2 sets each. Then Parcent's young team found sixth gear, picked up the pace and the victorious team brought home a triumphant win at 7-3.

As the supporters gathered in the court as the match finished I (Peter) went into one of the local bars, (just to check that the beer was cool)! There it was, live on TV just as it was going on just outside... the presentation ceremony.

As the Grand Cup, the medals, along with a cheque of €3,500 were presented, the TV presenter stood in front of the cameras and said as she held up three fingers, "That is the third cup this year the Parcent

Pilota team have won"

This brought a great cheer from the large crowd of supporters and residents. As a resident and keen follower of our pilota team, I raised my glass and said out loud. "That will be a treble then."
