Investigators will help to improve ‘best in Europe’ health service
THE REGIONAL government has vowed to fund the construction of a new €5 million building in Alicante city to house the health and biomedicine research institute (Isabial).
Valencia president Ximo Puig stated that the state-ofthe-art structure will measure some 3,850 square metres.
The Isabial was established in 2015 via an agreement between the regional government, Alicante university, Elche’s Miguel Hernández university and the Fisabio foundation, which was designed to ‘create and develop’ a health and biomedicine research centre.
However, national accreditation to operate is still pending from the ministry for health.
It is currently based on the fifth floor of Alicante general hospital.
During a visit to the hospital on Monday Sr Puig said his government is ‘working to make the new Isabial centre a reality as soon as possible’.
Sr Puig reminded that Isabial investigators are already publishing more than 500 reports and articles on their research each year.
He noted that his government’s first request to recently re-appointed minister for science and innovation, Pedro Duque will be to speed up the accreditation process.
This will allow them to access public grants for investigation.
Sr Puig added that more than 500 researchers are currently collaborating with the Isabial. He noted that their investigations will help to improve the health service, ‘which is the best in Europe’.
