‘Cosmopolit­an’ British tourists targeted

Promotion campaign will aim to attract birdwatche­rs, walkers and gastronomy lovers, amongst others

THE VALENCIA government is looking to expand its reputation in the UK beyond ‘sun and beach’ holidays by trumpeting activities for ‘cosmopolit­an’ British tourists.

Regional secretary for tourism Francesc Colomer noted that regional tourism will have to ‘diversify’ in order to attract more visitors from the UK.

He noted that they be will targeting tourists who want to go on bird watching or walking holidays and those who are interested in gastronomy and culture. Their advertisin­g campaigns this year will show that the area ‘is not just about sun and beaches’.

Sr Colomer stated that activity holidays are a growing trend amongst British tourists – and the Valencia region is able to provide them.

He added that they will be looking to attract the ‘cosmopolit­an’ tourist.

And he noted that the coalition regional government is ‘quietly optimistic’ over the future of British tourism after the UK officially left the European Union last Friday night.

Sr Colomer said they will approach the future relationsh­ip with the UK in a ‘responsibl­e manner’. Although it has been bumpy ride with some fluctuatio­ns, tourism from the UK has not been seriously affected since Britain voted to leave the EU, he added.

A YOUNG woman who gave birth to twins at her home on Thursday has been arrested for killing the babies.

A spokeswoma­n for the Regional Supreme Court (TSJ) explained that the suspect had appeared before an Elche judge on Sunday and had been sent to prison on remand without any possibilit­y of bail.

She said that the woman, aged 28, is currently being investigat­ed for two counts of homicide.

The spokeswoma­n revealed that an Elche judge had first been alerted over the tragedy by staff from Vinalopó hospital last Thursday.
