Results of the pairs better ball held in Oliva Nova Golf on Tuesday February 4

What a pleasure to be out on the course, glorious sunshine we had 32 players with two guests this week, husband and wife Bob and Jane Lincoln, back with us from last week and despite my comment about them not being allowed to win!

Bob went off with the nearest the pin prize on hole16 with no one beating his 3.27m, well done Bob, see you both next week. The other nearest the pin prize went to Roger Brown on Hole 5 with his second shot finishing 2.72m from the pin, well done Roger.

Today’s competition was a pairs better ball and there was some fantastic scoring as you can see from the results below.

‘Balls in the Water’ after the previous two weeks being a troll over this week it was won by Danny Herron who correctly guessed that 90 balls would finish in a watery grave. Because it was a big pot, he kindly donated half the winnings to the captain’s charity. We done Danny. There were no two’s again this week, the third week in a row. So it was decided to do a card draw and there were four lucky winners.

Again, the course was in great condition, despite the thin tinning of the greens and adding lots of sand the greens were rolling true, so they can only get better. Well done Jaime and the team.

The winners were:

1st place Peter Cornes and Barry Levitt with a better ball score that would always take some beating, of 48 points

2nd place Mick Farmer and Ian Robertson with a better ball score of 45 points

3rd John Snelling and Ian Jones with a better ball score of 44 points.

4th Brian Baybutt and Colin Foster with a better ball score of 43 points 5th Brian Barden and Susie Snelling with a better ball score of 41 points

So, all pretty close apart from the runaway winners well done Peter and Barry.

Next time we will be playing our first ‘Major’ of the year, which was put back a week because of the hollow tinning, the Pego Putter, a bogey competition where you play against the course. Defending champion from last year Derek Lindley.

Finally, a picture of this week’s winners, you can see we had some extra prizes this week. avocados and lots of them, one of our members has a huge tree so brought some in for all who played today to share. Hope they enjoy them.

Pego Society meet every Tuesday at Oliva Nova golf club, and if you would like to play please send an email to Penny Barden at pegohandicapsec@gmail.com, and we would love to see you.
