ESTATE AGENT ADMITS MURDER
Expat lover dumped body of 34-year-old woman in a bin in Moraira
THE partner of a 34-year-old mum whose bloodstained body was found dumped in an underground refuse container has allegedly confessed to the killing.
Dutch estate agent Arthur Karvink handed himself into police 24-hours after the mutilated corpse was found in Teulada Moraira - and admitted he killed the mother-of-one.
Binmen found the body of Alina Mocanu on Monday morning hours after being repeatedly stabbed by the 59-yearold. Sadly, the young Romanian woman has become another tragic statistic as the first victim of domestic violence in the Valencia region this year.
The body of the victim, who has a 14-year-old son, was found fully-dressed but covered in plastic and rolled in a duvet.
Detectives believe the businessman, who run Brilliant
Real Estate office in Moraira, hoped that the corpse he dropped into an organic bin on Calle de Móstoles in the El Tesoro urbanisation would escape discovery and be transferred to the landfill site at El Campello.
However, when binmen arrived ahead of the refuse lorry, they began to clear bags left at the recycling area and opened the container to drop in the rubbish immediately making the gruesome discovery and calling police.
A resident who lives nearby was passing the scene as the body was recovered told CBN: “I was driving to work and there was just one police car there at the time; obviously the body had just been found - within seconds the Guardia Civil and other reinforcements arrived.
Wrapped in plastic
“All I could see was a body wrapped in plastic with tape around the ankles; I could see the feet. I thought it was wrapped in a quilt, a duvet - they had just taken it off the body; we could see the body wrapped in plastic.
“I think the body was found inside the bins; they are massive underground containers.
“It’s not what you expect to see on a Monday morning on your way to work, honestly, I was shocked.”
Police quickly cordoned off the area and a search of all the bins took placed in the search for clues - forensic officers also began combing the area and examined the corpse before the body was taken to Alicante for an autopsy.
It was later revealed the dead woman had suffered a number of stab wounds, including defensive wounds to the hands and forearms. A wound to the neck was considered fatal.
And it is understood the suspect, who is said to have lived together with the victim in the area for two years, was about to be quizzed by police when he arrived at the Guardia Civil barracks in Moraira as a result of the body being identified.
It is understood from police sources he was arrested last July on suspicion of violent behaviour towards his partner. A neighbour called the emergency services after hearing screams for help and cries to call the police - the suspect was later acquitted at a court hearing after the dead woman refused to give evidence against him.
It is believed the couple had enjoyed a night out on Sunday and the killing took place after their return home. The murder weapon - believed to be a large kitchen knife - has yet to be found.
Detectives quizzed the suspect for four hours after his arrest; he was later transferred to Alicante and remains in custody.
