Police bust Dutch drug gang
Four arrested after Alfaz and Alicante house searches
ALICANTE police officers have arrested four Dutch nationals, dismantling a criminal organisation dedicated to drug trafficking.
During the operation, 100 kgs of marijuana, 550 cannabis plants, a loaded gun and cash were seized.
National Police officers from Provincial Judicial Police Drug and Organised Crime Brigade started their investigation following several interventions in a cannabis club in Alicante city linked to the traffickers.
Investigators began to collect information on who the alleged traffickers were and where they could be hiding the drug for its later sale and distribution.
During enquiries, officers verified that the members of the criminal organisation had very specific functions and that they used advanced security measures to hinder any police investigations.
Officers were able to identify the gang members and contacted Dutch police requesting information on the gang, discovering that one man was suspected of having ordered a hit on three men linked to Dutch cannabis plantations, while another was a member of a dangerous biker gang.
Once police had located where they were storing the drugs, a special surveillance operation was set up around the homes, taking extra precautions to not be detected as the suspects were considered to be highly dangerous.
The police arrested the alleged traffickers when they left one of the houses. At the time of the arrest, the detainees were carrying 266 grams of marijuana inside their vehicle.
Four searches were carried out in two Alicante homes and in two houses in Alfaz del Pi. A loaded firearm was found on a bedside table along with €20,000 in cash. One of the homes also had an indoor cannabis plantation with 550 plants, while 105 kilos of marijuana ready to be distributed and sold was also seized.
All the Dutch detainees, aged 44 and 56, were placed at the disposal of the on duty court charged with alleged crimes of drug trafficking, belonging to a criminal group, defrauding an electric company and illegal possession of weapons.
