Digital TV retuning

Retune your sets if you watch Spanish TV

- By Jo Pugh jpugh@cbnews.es

SEVERAL towns in Alicante province will have been affected by a loss of Spanish television signal this week. This is because the frequency for DTT (Digital Terrestrial Television) changed on February 17. It is advised to retune your television if you have lost channels. This is not for satellite television, but for those using an aerial.

DTT has been broadcast throughout the region on frequency 31 from centres in Aitana, Alcoy, Alicante, Beniarrés, Benidorm, Benimeli, Benitachell, Biar II, Crevillent, Elda and Villena II.

From now, the change of frequencies will begin, and for a while television will be on two frequencies. These are 31 and the new frequency, which is 22. It is expected to affect 1,276,106 inhabitants.

Although there is a simulcast (two frequency) broadcast period, for some communal users it is advised to contact an authorised installer to adapt antennas to the new technical requirements, the only way to continue tuning to the RTVE programmes of Clan and TeleDeporte. However, regardstallers less of the type of signal reception equipment in the buildings, all sets must be re-tuned in order to enjoy the full range of programmes on offer.

On 21 June 2019, a line of aid was approved by Royal Decree aimed at compensating the costs derived from the reception or access to television audio-visual communication services in buildings affected by the ‘Second Digital Dividend’. The amount of the subsidy ranges between €104.30 and €677.95, depending on the infrastructure previously installed in the building.

The applications, which will be managed by the public company Red.es, can be submitted online until 30 September 2020, after having previously made the adaptation of the DTT signal reception facilities between 1 June 2019 and 30 September.

It will be necessary to present supporting documentation, such as the invoice and the installation confirmation.

Aid may only be requested for actions carried out by companies registered in the Registry of Telecommunications Inof the Secretary of State for Digital Advancement (SEAD).

More information can be obtained on www.televisiondigi tal.es or by calling 901 201 004 and 910 889 879.

For those who have Spanish TV but wish to watch it with English audio, some channels do broadcast in the original language. To change to this, simply press the ‘audio’ button on your remote control, where you should be able to change to English if available.
