Jávea celebrates International Women’s Day
JÁVEA underlines its ongoing commitment to the fight for equality with a series of events to mark International Women’s Day on March 8.
The programme ‘Posa’t Les Piles’ plugs into the power of change and the positives of equality through such things as respect, esteem, freedom, responsibility, privacy, choice and empowerment.
Launching a programme of events, Councillor Montse Villaverde said the town was clear on achieving its objectives through education and the celebration would highlight the role of women in sports, science and the arts.
Tonight (February 21) in the Casa de Cultura at 19.30, there is a screening of the documentary ‘En la Brecha’, which examines the issue of the gender wage gap.
And on Thursday February 27 at 20.00 in the same venue, there is a presentation of the book ’25 Anys de Feminise a la Marina Alta’.
On the morning of Thursday March 5, there will be an information table promoting awareness in the Plaza de la Marina Alta and stories for primary school children in the Casa de Cultura - at 17.30, another story telling session takes place for youngsters aged one to six.
At 12.00 on Friday March 6 in Plaza de la Iglesia, in front of the town hall, there will be a formal act of celebration to mark the international day and at 18.00 in the Soler Blasco Museum a talk about female sexuality and poetry reading. In the port at 20.30, the church of Nuestra de Deu de Loreto hosts a concert featuring the work of female composers.
Sunday March 8 sees the biggest event, the annual NonCompetitive Women’s race and the events end on Saturday March 14, back in the Casa de Cultura, at 20.00 with monologues called ‘Pepita I Mariua’.
