Santa Pola school summit held
THE MAYORESS of Santa Pola and the councillors for education and Gran Alacant have met with the regional director of educational infrastructure.
Education councillor Julio Miguel Baeza said projects were required in all the municipality’s schools, each of which ‘needs tackling comprehensively’ rather than being ‘patched up, as they have been until now’.
For example, he argued that there is no point making a big investment in central heating without also replacing the old windows in order to optimise all resources.
Municipal technicians had visited the schools the week before to see what repairs were needed and their findings have been sent to the regional education department, with the suggestion that they either be carried out in annual phases at each school or that they concentrate on one school each year. The regional director noted that the town hall’s project to reconstruct the Hispanidad primary school is being checked and will be sent back, ‘probably’ with some deficiencies to be resolved by the council before it can be approved definitively.
The procedure for the construction of the second primary school in Gran Alacant is currently in the hands of the regional government, which has asked the company it has hired to resolve some deficiencies and said this should be completed within a month. Then all that remains is authorisation from regional auditors in order to start the public tender.
The regional education department estimated that construction would begin around the end of this year.
The project for a secondary school in Gran Alacant has been approved by the regional government, which is completing the procedure to delegate the authority to proceed to the town hall.
This was expected to be completed around the month of June, at which point the council will put out to tender the contract to draw up the plans and subsequently carry out the construction.
Work could actually begin towards the end of this year or in early 2021, as long as there are no further delays, noted a town hall spokeswoman.
Finally, the director suggested that the prefabricated classrooms required for the Gran Alacant section of the secondary school should be installed alongside the urbanisation’s sports centre.
The council is studying how these classrooms could be ready for September.
