Empty hotels
Hosbec the hoteliers' association have published figures for March hotel occupancy prior to shutdown. The first 15 days showed that the hotels were on average 70.6% occupied – but this plummeted after March 13, the day that restrictions on movement were announced. The peak was the weekend of March 7 and 8, with an occupancy of 85%, then from March 11 cancellations began to come through once news of the Coronavirus spread. By Sunday, March 15 occupancy had plummeted to 30% and by March 19, in line with orders, hotels closed and 41,000 hotel beds in Benidorm were empty.
