A.F.P.O. guest speaker reassures Brits

The A.F.P.O. meeting took place at the Sol Ifach hotel Calpe on Tuesday, March 3 2020.

Doors opened at 10am for signing in the meeting started at 10.30am President Keith Wildman introduced our speaker Elizabeth Bell, the Alicante British Vice Consulate who gave us an up date on the Brexit situation for those of us are resident in Spain and the new rules for Non- Residents.

The triple lock on our state pensions; our health care and rights as a residents in Spain.

We are reassured that nothing much will change. However it is essential to be on the padron and apply for a residence card as the new three month rule will apply.

If you are a new property owner in Spain a gestor can take you through the process to be legal in Spain.

Elizabeth told us about the new proposed residence card that could be introduced in the near future a T.I.E card bearing your photo just like the Spanish (D.N.I.)

The vice consul took questions from the audience. Elizabeth directed us to the GOV.UK/living in Spain web site.

President Keith Wildman announced that at this meeting that he was standing down as President after 20 years. Keith got a round of applause from the packed audience in appreciati­on of his many years of faithful service and his dedication to the members of A.F.P.O. and the people who needed urgent help. Keith has been supported over the years by his wife Audrey. It was then time to bring to the table the new President of A.F.P.O. - Carole Saunders

After a round of applause Carole stated that she will not be using her position in A.F.P.O for political ends. Carole gave us updates on the new street parking competitio­n for a new operator for the parking concession for the orange, green and blue zones. There are five companies in the hat. The new escalators and improvemen­ts for easy access to parts of the old town will be completed in 2021. A new Facebook page will be in place soon for the town hall.

Carole took questions from the room. The meeting was closed. Carole then announced that refreshmen­ts would be served at the back of the room.
