THE PRESIDENT of Torrevieja-based charity for the homeless Reach Out/Extiende La Mano, David Young has announced they have decided, 'after much soul searching and discussion' to cease providing meals from today (Friday) , as a temporary measure until the state of emergency is over.

He told Costa Blanca News they do not have the income or material support required to continue the service and protect volunteers. The NGO Alimentos Solidarios will provide meals during this time.

Family packs will continue, as this is only once per fortnight, and their social worker, María has agreed to carry on with one assistant.

"I am sure you are all supporting each other as we struggle with the situation," he told volunteers.

Mr Young noted they have never closed before in their nine year history, and assured they will 'come back stronger '.

They will still have overheads to pay for, but patrons can help offset this by donating to Extienda La Mano, IBAN: ES21 0049 3613 91 2314017223
