Sports pavilion reconstruction halted

- By Jo Pugh

The sporting world is one of the most affected areas during the pandemic as literally every facility has closed.

It also has repercussions on pending municipal projects, which is the case for the repair of the Dénia sports centre pavilion.

The pavilion was virtually destroyed by a tornado during a storm in September of last year. The works to repair the building have now been suspended.

The councillor for Urban Territory and Quality, Maria Josep Ripoll, recognised that this “strange situation” will severely affect this important sports venue in the town.

Specifically, it is affecting the project tender procedure as under current conditions there are tenders that can be drawn up and others, not.

In this sense, Ripoll stressed that they must analyse everything in detail, as before taking the next step they have to know if companies are capable of presenting their bids, and even submit the required documentation.

With this being a severe potential setback, studies are being undertaken to understand what can be done.

The councillor already announced earlier this month that the council would assume the cost of the repair, budgeted at €261,000, while they waited for insurance assessments.

According to Ripoll, the project was ready and they planned to launch the tender as soon as the municipal accounts were finally approved, which happened on 11 March.

The decree of state of alarm also affects working conditions as workers must maintain a separation distance for safety reasons, to avoid possible contagion.

This will slow down the pace of work, which in turn will cause delays over the expected deadlines.
