Museum helps to fight pandemic
THE UPCOMING exhibition of some of China’s famous Terracotta Army sculptures at the Alicante archaeology museum (MARQ) has led to a donation of medical supplies to combat the coronavirus pandemic.
The national history museum of Shaanxi in China offered to supply 1,000 facemasks to the health service here.
Provincial deputy for culture Julia Parra said they were ‘moved and filled with hope that those who have gone through the worst of this crisis have shown us their solidarity at these difficult times for our country’.
The restoration laboratories at the MARQ and the Alicante fine arts museum (MUBAG), both managed by the provincial government culture department, have also donated around 100 facemasks, 1,000 gloves and disinfectant to the Doctor Esquerdo psychosocial rehabilitation centre in the city.
Sra Parra said they had immediately decided to give this equipment to medical personnel because their needs for it due to lack of supplies are the highest priority.
The MARQ and the MUBAG have launched the #quedateencasaconelmarq and #MUBAGdesdecasa campaigns on social networks which offer a complete online cultural programme for all ages, including children’s activities, virtual tours, comments on specific pieces and interesting facts.
The MARQ has also made its grounds available for workers at the adjacent Plá provincial hospital-health centre to park their cars.
Sra Parra said this was done to make life easier for them because they have been finding it particularly difficult to park in the area lately and they are working in especially hard conditions so deserve any help the provincial government can give them.
The MARQ has approved 36 parking permits for hospital workers to use between 07.30 and 21.00 Monday to Friday, and 07.30 to 15.00 on Saturdays.
Security guards will identify the authorised vehicles by their number plates in order to ensure the safety of the facilities and people.
