Calpe reveals local figures

-

Calpe mayoress, Ana Sala, held a live Facebook question and answer session on Monday, and for the first time revealed the number of people infected with coronavirus in the town.

She clarified that the official data is handled by the ministry of health and that she only knew of the figures after receiving information from the director of Calpe health centre. The numbers of people isolated in their homes and requiring medical follow-up is between 70 and 80. Those people are 'stable', as are the figures, and each day two or three discharges are taking place. “The director of the health centre, Elia Ortuño, told me that there is stability. At first the doctors do a follow-up by telephone daily and then, as the patients improve, the follow-up is every two or three days,” explained Sra Sala. Sra Sala also said that the behaviour of the residents is exemplary.

“You are doing great,” she said. "We cannot let our guard down. The local police tell me that complaints are going down every day. Both I and the entire council team are very satisfied with your commitment and responsibility in this health crisis." She stated that €100,000 of direct aid is available for food and medicine to the families who are suffering the effects of the lockdown.

“It is a subsistence income and it will reach all who need it,” she noted.

The council has considered giving aid of €1,000 to businesses that have had to close due to this crisis and €750 to those who have seen their activity greatly diminished. “But we do not have the powers to give aid to companies," she said. "That responsibility belongs to the Valencia government. We have already asked them to authorise this.”
