Flooding aid comes through

- By Alex Watkins

THIS MONTH the regional government has now paid over a million euros to 548 people for losses they suffered due to the DANA storm flooding in September last year.

These payments correspond to its line of aid for those who have lost basic necessities, such as domestic appliances or mattresses. The amounts range from €1,500, which was paid out as an advance, up to €4,500, for losses which had to be confirmed by an assessor.

On April 3 the regional government modified the decree by which the aid for basic goods was assigned, increasing the total allocated from €13.5 million to €20,991,448.

The number of applications received has been 8,451, which is many more than was expected when the decree was first approved on September 20, 2019, just a week after the storm. The recipients include the Socialist (PSOE) regional deputy and mayor of Rafal, Manuel Pineda.

Now that most of the expenses have been assessed it has been possible to make a more accurate estimation of how much funding would be required to pay the aid.

In addition, the regional government allocated funds for other types of losses, for example, a total of €1.5 million for vehicles that were damaged; €30 million for residents whose homes were either destroyed or damaged; and €500,000 towards rent for people who had to move because their homes were damaged.

The funds are being paid out gradually as applications are being processed and the lists of all beneficiaries for all the different types of flooding aid can be consulted on the website http://ayudasdana.gva.es/es/ inici
