Masks for all in Bigastro and Redován
BIGASTRO town hall has been delivering facemasks made by local seamstresses to residents’ homes.
The council was able to find suitable sanitary material to make them, which was donated by the businesses Mobliberica and Zambu, and thanked Raquel Gómez Gelardo, Maria Inmaculada Ubeda Pascual and the shop Amaya Fashion for Kids for helping them with this.
Mayoress Teresa Belmonte and social services councillor Nuria Andreu thanked the group of women who sewed the masks, who have called themselves ‘Costureras de la Esperanza’ (seamstresses of hope).
Delivery of the masks to residents’ homes began last week, with council workers dropping off one per adult because children should not leave the house at all.
The masks are washable (with neutral soap not bleach) so they can be reused but if any replacements are required residents should call 636 10 73 71.
Meanwhile in Redován, mayoress Nely Ruíz thanked a team of 30 volunteers who had helped to make more than 5,000 masks, and the local businesses that donated the material used to make them.
About 4,000 have already been delivered to residents who have asked for them, prioritising the elderly and those with conditions that would make contracting Covid-19 particularly dangerous.
Some have also been given to six local businesses, including the drivers of a transport company and workers for various companies in the food sector.
Health councillor Marisol Ibañez noted they will keep making the masks as long as people need them and keep requesting them, adding that orders should be placed by calling 644 229 937 or 652 100 615.
