LIPS give thanks

- By Alex Watkins socialsouth@cbnews.es

LIPS, the association that supports Los Infiernos dogs shelter, is celebrating some good news amidst the pandemic crisis.

The shelter, which is managed by the animal welfare association Caminando Con Ellos, takes in abandoned dogs from several municipalities, including San Pedro del Pinatar, Los Álcazares, Pilar de la Horadada and Torre Pacheco.

When the state of emergency began and it temporarily had to close, the volunteers did not know how things would turn out for the dogs but the community rallied round and 55 were adopted in March.

Although this was beyond their wildest dreams, not all of them were able to travel due to

and emergencies, such as accidents, thefts, break-ins, sudden deaths and when police or medical services are involved. Emergency 24-hour helpline 96 672 37 33.

To volunteer contact one of our offices, both open Monday-Friday 10.00-13.30. San Miguel de Salinas: Calle Lope de Vega 45 Tel: 96 672 37 33

Huntington’s Disease Association

Support for people on the Costa Blanca directly or indirectly involved with HD. the government’s lockdown restrictions and they are waiting patiently for the transport schedule to resume.

Meanwhile, LIPS has also thanked the association Cruz Azul for a donation that has enabled the shelter to castrate 48 of the dogs in their care.

Cruz Azul raises funds from its shop in San Javier, so every purchase or item donated for them to sell also benefits the dogs at Los Infiernos, as well as local families without resources who need help to cover veterinary bills for their pets.

Volunteers are not only needed at the shelter, but also at the Cruz Azul shop, which is at Avenida de la Unión, 96, and opens Monday to Saturday from 10.00 to 14.00.

If you have HD, are at risk or are a carer, talk with others who have experience. We offer mutual support in a friendly atmosphere. We meet every Friday from 14.00-16.00 at O’Brien’s Bar, El Raso, Guardamar del Segura.
