La Nucía encourages its athletes
To observe the United Nations ‘International Day of Sport for Development and Peace’, but without being able to host any sporting events, La Nucía town hall released a video of clubs and school sports to give “courage and strength” to all athletes and the community. All the clubs appealed to their members to stay home during confinement, and to “train at home, to become even stronger”.
The video can be seen on YouTube by searching for ‘La Nucía Ciudad del Deporte’. This initiative by the sports department of La Nucía received a warm response, and most of the schools and sports clubs in the town participated, such as: La Nucía Skate Club, La Nucía Athletics Club, La Nucía Soccer Club, BMX Race La Nucía Club, Grup Scout La Nucía, Brazilian Jiujitsu Anaconda La Nucía Association, Club Rhythmic Gymnastics La Nucía, Club Aikido La Nucía, Club Hapkido La Nucía, Club Muay Thai La Nucía, Club Ciclista La Nucía, Club Imperio Taekwondo WTF La Nucía, Club Volleyball La Nucía, Club Taekwondo ITF La Nucía, Club Padelpoint La Nucía, Zumba La Nucía Club, Swimming Pool Club Camilo Cano La Nucía, Synchronized Swimming Club La Nucía, Vikings Triathlon Club La Nucía, Heated Swimming Pool Camilo Cano, CD Sporting Futsal La Nucía and Club Pilota Valenciana La Nucía.
As the UN stated, sport is a “powerful tool to strengthen social ties and promote sustainable development, peace, wellbeing, solidarity and respect which is key at critical moments such as those of the Coronavirus health crisis. Even from confinement in our homes, we can come together and share creative ways to improve our health and well-being through sports and physical activity”.
The World Health Organisation recommends at least 30 minutes of daily physical activity. La Nucía has a social media page entitled Camilo Cano Heated Pool where types of confined space exercise are available to view.
“From the La Nucía City Council we want to thank all the clubs for participating in this video to give encouragement and strength to the entire society during confinement and to recommend that they stay active without leaving home. To celebrate the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, we ask that you remain active, healthy and supportive in these times of physical and social distancing. Team spirit will help us overcome uncertainty and current difficulties together”, said Bernabé Cano, mayor of La Nucía
