Pego Golf Society
Results of the team accumulator held in Oliva Nova golf on Tuesday July 7
We had 28 players turning out for Pego today, including two guests, Richard Pike and Peter Ketteringham. Peter played well he was in the winning team so I am sure we will see him again.
There were only two prizes today for 1st and 2nd place, see below for the winners.
It was a great day for playing although it was very warm, glad I had a buggy as walking was only for the very fit.
Despite this the course was in superb condition although the greens are still a little slower than they could be. But, having had a chat with the head greenkeeper the reason is the greens are quite old now and have become saturated with a lot of contamination from the poa anua grass and other warm climate grasses.
This means different maintenance policies have to be applied, after all the grass is a living thing and will not always remain in the same condition. So that’s why the greenkeeping team have to take extra care in the hot summer months.
This though didn’t stop the winning team, 111 points on a very hot day was a good score, we were playing 2 to score on the par 5’s 3 to score on the par 4’s and all 4 to score of the par 3’s so it was a good winning score with the winners playing some constant golf. Pictured are two from the winning team, on the left Peter Ketteringham and Danny Herron. With Celia, Susie and Brian from the 2nd place team. Today’s winning teams;
1st – Peter Ketteringham, Danny Herron, Mick Farmer and Peter Cornes - 111 points
2nd – Brian Barden, John Evans, Susie Snelling and Celia Cronin – 108 points
