Residents asked for budget ideas
Local people urged to ‘ get involved’ in the spending plan
TORREVIEJA town hall has presented its ‘ participative budget’ project for 2021.
Residents can submit their proposals for next year’s council spending plan until Sunday, October 4.
Councillor for the treasury Domingo Paredes stated that there will be no cap on how much the town hall can plough into the citizens’ initiative.
He encouraged residents to get involved and ‘ take part in the drawing up of the council budget’. In order to qualify citizens have to be on the municipal register ( padrón) and over 16 years old.
Registered associations, foundations, trade unions and professional colleges can also present proposals which have to be ‘ in the public interest’ or of benefit to local communities.
They also have to fall under the remit of local authority spending.
Councillor for innovation Ricardo Recuero said proposals
have to be submitted via the council website ( www. torrevieja. es) by choosing the ‘ Presupuestos Participativos’ option. Sr Recuero explained that all the ideas will be ‘ made public’ and then council officers will study them to decide which are ‘ viable’.
Residents will then have the opportunity to vote for their
preferred schemes.
The councillor noted that the ‘ most popular’ projects will be included in the council’s municipal budget for 2021.
He stated that the town hall is already working on next year’s council budget and they aim to pass the spending plan before the end of this year.
The Partido Popularrun
council was due to approve the municipal budget for 2020 in a full council meeting yesterday ( Thursday) evening.
The process has suffered numerous delays – not least when the council had to rerun the obligatory public display of the spending plan following a legal challenge.
