A COMPREHENSIVE repair and improvement plan is underway in one of the areas worst affected by last September’s floods, the CV935 road between Almoradí and Algorfa, where the containing wall of the river gave way.

The Segura river and water authority ( CHS) has spent over € 2 million restoring and reinforcing the walls, and repairing the riverside paths and access areas between the ‘ ground zero’ point and the rural district of Heredades. The regional government has restored the irrigation channels and their associated service roads, as well as the sanitation network along the Algorfa road.

The town hall has invested over € 300,000 to demolish the most seriously damaged homes and restore the road where it enters the town, and replaced drinking water connections and roadside green areas and the lanes that run off it.

Also the first phase of replacing street lights in the district of El Raiguero, which is next to Algorfa, has been completed for € 50,000. Furthermore, the regional government began restoration work on social housing at the entrance to Almoradí on the CV935 this week with a budget of € 660,000.

It includes repairs to pipes, facades and roofs, replacing the sewage network, installing LED lighting, improving fire safety equipment, adding a disabled access ramp, improving the building’s energy efficiency, extending the green areas and adding new outdoor furniture in communal zones.

Regional housing councillor Rubén Martínez Dalmau visited the area with mayoress María Gómez last week.

He said this will improve residents’ quality of life and added that another three social homes are about to be signed over to the town hall. The regional government is also putting up 50% of a € 500,000 investment with the town hall to repair road surfaces in Almoradí town centre that were damaged by the flooding.

Three more projects have been approved and are about to start, including a new storm drain along Avenida Dr MarañonEl Calvario, which crosses the Algorfa road, to be carried out by the central government at a cost of € 906,000.

A cycle path will be installed by the regional government for an estimated € 300,000 along the CV935 as far as Algorfa.

Finally, the rest of the street lighting in El Raiguero will be replaced with LEDs for another € 50,000. A council spokesman said this comprehensive plan is crucial for the future development of the area, to integrate it with the town and improve accessibility to Almoradí.
