2020 Regatta Championsh­ips

The Regional Llaüt Meditteran­eo 2020 VII Regatta Championsh­ips took place last weekend at the Santa Pola Nautical Club – reschedule­d from March when the country went into lockdown.

Twelve clubs participat­ed on Saturday morning, in total 108 athletes and 14 teams on Saturday afternoon, comprising of 126 athletes then on Sunday, 17 teams made up of 153 athletes.

Health protocols were strictly adhered to throughout, with the Santa Pola club giving each team a cleaning kit and dedicated space.

The winners were as follows: In the female cadet category, the Real Club

Náutico Gandia team won. Men's Youth – Real Club Náutico Dénia. Male Cadet category – Real Club Alicante followed by Club Náutico Santa Pola and third place went to Real Club Náutico Torrevieja.

In the female Youth category, the Championsh­ip went to Real Club Regatas Alicante followed by Calpe and Gandía in third place.

On Sunday the male veterans and absolute categories were contested – with Torrevieja winning the veterans followed by Alicante and Santa Pola in third place.

The main event of the day was the men's absolute category which also was the decider to be crowned the champion of the SUMA league which went to Dénia, followed by Club Deportivo Universita­rio de Valencia in second place. The third place position had to be reviewed by recordings, such was the margin and was finally shared between Santa Pola and Alicante as both finished at exactly the same time.
