Law firm claims victory is in sight
A LAW firm representing residents of Torrevieja’s Torreta III urbanisation said a deal has been negotiated with the town hall to carry out important infrastructure works which should have been completed more than 30 years.
The housing complex which stands close to the shore of Torrevieja salt lake was left unfinished by builders in the 1980s.
A legal battle between residents and the town hall over responsibility for carrying out the work had reached the highest court of the land.
The Supreme Court revealed on Friday that judges had turned down the residents’ appeal calling on the council to pay for work to resolve problems compounded by a lack of investment.
However, a statement sent out by the Chapapría- Navarro legal team explained that the judicial ‘ way’ was not the only one. A firm spokesman noted that a working group had been set up in February by mayor Eduardo Dolón, which has allowed residents’ representatives and council officers to work together to resolve the difficulties.
The spokesman said that an agreement has now been reached in the commission ‘ to resolve the problems of Torreta III outside of the courtroom’.
According to the spokesman, this has now been given the green light by the council’s legal team.
He claimed that this will allow an answer to be given to the ‘ basic necessities’ of the residents.
Residents have been asking the local authority to provide basic services for their urbanisation for decades.
They have estimated the cost of the work at € 9 million.
The town hall has yet to make an official statement on the matter – or to explain how it will fund the enormous cost of redeveloping Torreta III.
