New season at Orihuela theatre
THE ATANASIO Die theatre in Orihuela is reopening its doors for a new season of varied entertainment, including music, comedy, theatre and children’s events.
The main attractions are a concert by the singer India Martínez on November 7; and the flamboyant violinist Ara Malikian, accompanied by the pianist Iván ‘ Melón’ Lewis, on December 4. Also on the schedule is an acoustic performance by local indie pop heroes Varry Brava on December 18.
Another local group, Gremio D. C. will be giving a free concert at the theatre on October 24, when they will be performing tracks from their latest release, Era Warhol.
Orihuela symphony orchestra will be giving a free performance on November 15.
Classical music is also represented with the traditional Christmas concerts by the Unión Lírica de Orihuela on December 20, the Ciudad de Orihuela orchestra on Christmas Day, and the Ginés Pérez de la Parra wind orchestra and choir from the Orihuela professional music conservatory on New Year’s Day. Admission to all three concerts is free.
The four scheduled theatre performances are: Gracias po venir. Tributo a Lina Morgan ( thank you for coming. Tribute to Lina Morgan) on October 25; the Coliseo theatre group production of La Herencia ( the inheritance) on November 14, with free admission; on November 28 there will be a production
of Paul Portner’s award- winning comedy, Por los Pelos ( original English version title Shear Madness); and on December 19 Bureo theatre group will be performing their romantic comedy Fuera de quicio, with free admission.
Comedy is represented with
the show El Zagalico on October 17; Pantomima Full’s latest show En su cabeza era Espectacular ( in his head it was spectacular) on November 13; and Alex O’Dogherty’s new production Imbécil ( midiendo las palabras) ( Imbecile, choosing words carefully) on December
18.
Children will be catered for when Cantajuegos bring Te extiende mi mano ( I give you my hand) at 12.00 and 17.00 on November 29. Tickets are available online from www. Bacantix. com or the venue box office.
