The Rugby Federation has given the go ahead for an initial round of friendly junior and senior matches to be played in the coming weeks.
The junior league will start on October 24 and finish on December 19.
The seniors round robin fixtures will be from November 7 until December 19.
Basically the Valencian Rugby Federation will split the zone into three regions, North, Central and South as opposed to the conventional way of creating divisions through performance. ( Division 1, 2 3 etc)
The new system is aimed at reducing travelling distances for each team so Denia Barbarians will play teams in the central area such as Tavernes, Inter and Cullera.
These round robin friendly matches will test the way rugby matches can be run during the Covid situation.
In the worst case, this format will continue like this in 2021
In the best case, in the new year we will revert to the original system and revert to a league system across a wider geographical area.
The newly re- branded Denia Barbarians Rugby Club on the Marina Alta, are looking for new players for the upcoming 2020/ 2021 season.
With an excellent "grass pitch" and stadium to train and play in, we are looking for players ( both new and experienced) from 8 years old through to senior players ( 18 +).
Current players come from all around the Marina Alta region, from Calpe to Gandía and inland to the Jalón Valley and Pego.
Our seniors from all walks of life and the oldest players are in their 40s, so if you have played previously, then please come along to pre- season training and see how you get on. We're sure you'll love it.
We play in the Valencia leagues and although competitive, the main aim is to meet new friends from different parts of the world and enjoy the game of rugby.
