Alfaz Fantasy Football League

- By Eric Malpus - Week 4

The inclement weather and the Manchester United and Liverpool defenders' social distancing helped to make it another bumper week for points in the Alfaz Fantasy Football League. There was a full Premier League programme at the weekend and two Monday night games which gave the A. F. F. L. a total of 48 goals ( an average of four goals a game) five clean sheets, 40 yellow cards and one red one which was Manchester United's French striker Anthony Martial who received his marching orders from referee Anthony Taylor for retaliating with Spur's Lamela who went down like a sack of spuds after having a slap in the face from the Frenchman.

Penalties were once again in the spotlight with two awarded at Stamford Bridge, two at Old Trafford, and one came at Newcastle which took the season's tally to 25 after only four weeks into this season's Fantasy League.

Carol's team Sky Blues jumped up 14 places to reach the summit after recording the highest score so far this season with a score of 70 points, thanks mainly to Aston Villa's Jack Grealish who was this week's top Fantasy League player with a tally of 28 points. Currently they have a 10 point lead over Eric's Full Metal Jackets who climbed up six places to 2nd. Pompey Hammers and Winand chester United are right behind the Jackets with only 1 point separating them. At the foot of the table, Heimir's Reykjavik are in trouble as they trail Tony Mac's Rumney Rovers by a couple of points.

Carol's Sky Blues are the new leaders of our Mark Carter Ladies Section albeit by a single point over Catherine's Pompey Hammers. Jackie's Winchester United and Clara's Granny are in third and fourth place. It looks as though it's going to be a long season ahead for Liz's Leia's Yum Yums as they have already fallen 24 points adrift of Laura's Legends at the bottom.

Our Junior League is already looking like a two horse race with Clara's Babes & Harley's Ginger Ninja opening up a 49 point gap between second and third place. The Babes hold a 11 point advantage at the top over last season's winners of this section Ginger Ninja. Olly's 11 are struggling to get going this season with only 41 points to their name which has left them trailing Bez's Boys at the bottom by 37 points.

Up to now we have had 10 defenders find the back of the net this season which is good news for our Golden Boot Managers as each goal contributes 10 points to their team. Chelsea's Zouma scored his second goal of the season on Saturday against Crystal Palace but only two Fantasy managers selected the giant centre back. Burnley's Pieters

Brighton's Lewis Dunk put the ball in their own net costing their managers a minus 10, fortunately only affecting 12 managers. Jackie's Winchester United have returned to the top spot after a week away. They have a 6 point advantage over Hazel's El. Sid F. C. Last week’s leaders Clara's Babes have slipped down to third, then comes the fast moving Sky Blues in fourth place. At the other end of the table, Mick's Woodside finally got some points on board and moved away from the trap door and left Leia's Yum Yums and the Gluepot Mahou Men both in the bottom spot.

Top scorers Sky Blues have 70 points but the lowest score went to our only manager who lives in Canada Brian whose team Bronte Village got a minus 9 which will take some beating. On the bright side both teams will go into our monthly wine draw which was won by Ian's Kasbrane Blues last month.

Our first manager of the month is being sponsored by the Drunken Duck in Alfaz who provide some of the best English food in the area. With just one week gone Carol's Sky Blues have a 8 point lead over Simon's team I Want My Ball Back. Two teams are in joint third place Thallassions and Clara's Granny who are both only 9 points behind the leaders.

With an international break ahead it will give us a chance to sort out the website.
