Four suspected criminals arrested in Benidorm
NATIONAL Police officers have this week arrested four foreigners with outstanding European arrest warrants in Benidorm and surrounding localities.
They were detained in separate police operations.
The first to be arrested was a 55yearold Norwegian in Alfaz del Pi.
In midSeptember, judicial police officers received an arrest warrant for this person, who was believed to have settled in Albir.
They carried out various enquiries and finally arrested him as he walked down a main avenue. He had been living in the area for the past six months.
He was wanted by Norwegian authorities and is accused of sexually exploiting minors, abusing his own 10yearold daughter over an 11year period and child pornography.
The suspect faces a maximum sentence of 21 years in jail.
The second fugitive was a 32yearold Briton wanted by British authorities for
drug trafficking and money laundering crimes, who faces 14 years in prison.
A National Police patrol located him in a Benidorm hotel, but when he detected their presence, he leapt over
the balcony, but was arrested by officers in the street outside the establishment.
A third police operation was launched to detain a 34yearold Romanian citizen who was wanted by Italian authorities and believed to be living in Benidorm.
After locating his home, he was quickly arrested by police.
He faces charges of belonging to a criminal organisation in Italy, where he was tasked to commit crimes against property and install cardcloning devices in cash machines in Torino. For these crimes, he faces a maximum sevenyear jail sentence.
A 40yearold Polish man was the last to be arrested.
He was detained at dawn during a routine traffic check by officers who saw him run a red light.
On identifying the occupants of the car, officers discovered that one of them had an outstanding European arrest warrant issued by his home country for crimes of drug trafficking, belonging to a criminal organisation and destruction of documents.
He had been sentenced to six years in prison and still had three years left to serve when he fled Poland to hide in Benidorm.
The detainees were placed at the disposal of Spain’s High Court, in charge of carrying out extradition procedures for European arrest warrants.
