Music without frontiers
THE 13th annual Música Sin Fronteras ( music without frontiers) festival in Rojales was due to take place at the Teatro Capitol in March and April.
As with all events of this kind, the festival was postponed until a later date due to the Covid19 pandemic.
Rojales town hall announced this week that, after an extended wait, the celebration will now run from October 23November 20.
Amazingly, the rescheduled festival line up is identical to that of the original.
It gets underway on October 23 with a performance by the acclaimed Spanish jazz pianist Moises P. Sanchez and his quintet, who will be promoting his latest release Unbalanced, which has been nominated for a Latin
Grammy for the Best Instrumental Album. For the concert, the pianist will be accompanied by Cristina Mora, Mirón Ratajlovic, Toño Miguel and Borja Barrueta.
The second concert, on October 30, will see Washington D. C. tenor saxophonist Harry Allen and his quartet taking to the Rojales stage. The saxophonist will be backed by Fabio Miano, Ignasi González and Jo Krause.
Next up, on November 6, it is the turn of the Spanish folk music ensemble La Musgaña. The group uses instruments such as the dulcimer, fiddle, hurdygurdy, bagpipes, flute, guitar and bass, and performs traditional music from the northeast of the Iberian Peninsula.
This is followed on November 13 with a concert by the Lithuanian jazz vocalist and
composer Viktorija Pilatovic and her quintet. For the concert the singer will be performing tracks from her latest release The Only Light.
On November 20 the Nakhla orchestra will be bringing the curtain down on this year’s Música Sin Fronteras. The band, featuring Moroccan and Spanish musicians, perform music that promotes the culture and heritage of music of
Arabic and AlAndalus origin, in addition to sounds from other different Mediterranean areas.
Tickets are € 8 per concert and are available from Monday to Friday from 09.0014.00 at Rojales archaeology museum.
All performances begin at 21.00. Strict Covid19 protocols will be in place.
