Clampdown on illegal parties
Increased vigilance to halt virus spread
RESIDENTS of the Valencia region have been asked to report any illegal parties which number more than six people.
Councillor for justice Gabriela Bravo stated: “If you know that one of these parties is taking place do not hesitate to call the police.
“Following the new rules will help all of us to protect ourselves against the virus.”
Sra Bravo gave a press conference on Monday with the government delegate in the Valencia region, Gloria Calero.
Sra Calero said that a situation cannot exist in which people are having to close their businesses while others are partying without taking any responsibility for their actions.
“We will have no qualms about acting against this minority of selfish people who are breaking the rules,” she said. “Their actions will have consequences.”
Sra Bravo noted that all the security forces will be coordinating to prevent any parties from occurring ‘ which may be alternatives to regulated hostelry activities’.
Officers will be ‘ very vigilant’ to ensure that people are not breaking the rules and are maintaining social distancing.
The two political leaders met with chiefs of the different police forces to discuss the additional actions that will be taken to ensure the new measures to halt the spread of Covid19 are observed.
They noted that the coordination will be ‘ continual’ and they will act together as they did during the first wave of the pandemic in the spring.
Sra Bravo highlighted that during the first weekend of the curfew the security forces had only had to hand out 300 fines ‘ out of a population of five million people’ in the region.
Most of these were for not
wearing a face mask, she added, while a smaller percentage was for breaking the curfew or holding parties.
Sra Bravo called for ‘ responsibility and solidarity’ from the residents of the region.
“These measures are going to help us to reduce the contagions and continue to advance in the fight against Covid19 – something that we all have to be implicated in,” she stated.
