Tax cuts put people first
A series of measures are designed to support the locality
BUSINESS owners and residents will both benefit as Jávea town hall looks to cut local taxes and help make savings in the ongoing Covid19 health crisis.
A series of measures will ‘ modify’ local bylaws and boost the economy as the local authority brings in initiatives to support the locality.
Finance councillor Ximo Segarra presented the initiative to a full council meeting on Monday – which he said was a helping hand in ‘ extraordinary times’.
The hospitality sector will see immediate benefits – charges for terraces will be dropped for 2021, continuing this year’s policy.
It will cost the town hall € 200,000 but councillors aim to ‘ ease the financial burden’ on bars, cafes and restaurants
And expansion of outdoor areas to comply with social distancing regulations will continue, with the civil servants ready to help businesses who wish to take advantage of the opportunity
In addition, another move was to scrap the ‘ start up’ fee charged by the town hall for a new business actually opening its doors. This represents a saving of € 900.
Councillor Segarra said: “The objective is to encourage economic growth and investment and make it easier for business people who wish to be selfemployed or to create new jobs.”
People who require a municipal register ( padrón) certificate, a document which proves a person is resident in a town and needed for a variety of purposes, will no longer have to pay the € 3.30 fee.
It is further proposed to reward people with a discount of up to 25% over three years – and to a € 200 annual maximum – for legal homes that have installed approved thermal or solar energy systems to save power.
Councillor Segarra said this would take effect for the annual tax period after being requested; for example, in 2022 for those who applied next year.
Los Alcázares
In Los Alcázares on the Mar Menor the town hall has announced that it is freezing the IBI property tax for 2021 for residents so that no increases will be brought in.
The proposal was due to be approved at a full council meeting this week.
Mayor Mario Pérez Cervera said they were trying to support homeowners and do everything possible to make their lives easier.
