Congratulations to three happy Brits

-

FIRSTLY we have Lewis Hamilton, the new King of F1 racing.

Last week I said that the Mercedes star would win the

Portuguese Grand Prix and take over as the greatest ever driver in Formula One history. And he did just that, doing so in dominating fashion as he claimed his 92nd race victory by finishing a massive 25.72 seconds ahead of Valttieri Bottas with Max Verstappen third.

‘ Hammo’ won his first F1 race back in 2003 and now he’s gained 92 victories from 263 starts – 71 driving a Mercedes, 21 in a McLaren.

Secondly, we have cyclist Tao Geoghegan Hart who has become only the second British rider to win the Giro d'Italia. The 25yearold was the joint leader with Australian Jai Hindley before last Sunday’s the finalday time trial. And it was team Ineos Grenadiers' top man Hart who came on top, winning the 15.7km time trial by 39 seconds to clinch a famous victory. Chris Froome is the only other Brit to win the ‘ Giro’, doing so in 2018. Now Hart joins Froome, Bradley Wiggins, Geraint Thomas and Simon Yates as the only Brits to have won a Grand Tour cycle race.

And the third Brit who did exceedingly last weekend was the Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford who scored his firstever Premiership hattrick in his side’s excellent 30 victory over Aston Villa. This win actually lifted Leeds up to third place in the table – their highest topflight position since September 2002 – while at the same time Villa missed out on taking over from Everton at the top of the table.
