ALFAZ DEL PI FREDY BUSTOS AND TOVE KVERNIVIK

Until February 26: Exhibtion of paintings by two of Alfaz del Pi’s internatio­nal residents Fredy Bustos and Tove Kvernivik at the culture centre. The two artists are ‘united in friendship but with very different artistic approaches’, where Fredy Bustos’ spontaneou­s realism portraits contrast with Tove Kvernivik’s abstract compositio­ns

TRAPPED. EXPLOITED CHILDHOODS

Until February 26: Exhibition of images by photo-journalist Lucas Vallecillo­s, entitled ‘Atrapados. Infancias explotadas’ (trapped. Exploited childhoods) at the Sala AIFOS in Alicante university. The exhibition takes as its reference points the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Internatio­nal Labour Organisati­on Convention­s 138 and 182, which establish the minimum age for work (138) and the worst forms of child labour (182) and is open Monday to Friday from 09.0014.00 and 16.00-19.00

WALLSCAPES Until March 14:

Wallscapes, an exhibition of works by the Alicante-based photograph­er Carlos Balsalobre, at Palau Altea. Bringing together a total of 11 large format works created over the last decade that, as a whole, can be considered an ‘intimate and moving work that touches the senses’. LA MIRADA DEL OTRO

Until March 15: El Boca del Calvari museum is hosting an exhibition of contempora­ry Alicante portrait paintings entitled ‘La mirada del otro’ (the look of the other) featuring works by eight artists – Rosalía Banent, Ormar Arráez, Víctor Cámara, Xavi García, Ut Walden, Carlos Llorens, Hunter87 and Silvia Viana. The museum is situated on Calle Tomas Ortuño and is open Tuesdays 17.0020.30, Wednesday to Friday 10.30-13.30 and 17.00-20.30 and in the morning only at weekends

OUTDOOR URBAN ART

Three of Benidorm’s outdoor urban art spaces are hosting displays of images taken by 18 amateur photograph­ers from throughout Alicante province. The Poniente space features images of Benidorm itself, whilst El Tolls space focuses on nature, and the one in Calle Carrasco contains portraits, landscapes and detailed images, amongst others

25TH EXFICALP 2020 STAMP AND COLLECTORS EXHIBITION

Until February 27: 25th Exficalp 2020 stamp and collectors exhibition at the Ajuntament Vell de Calp exhibition space, situated at Plaça de la Villa, 20. Titled ‘Calp-El Puerto de Santa María more than two twinned cities/towns’ it celebrates the 25th anniversar­y of the twinning of the two towns. Also at the exhibition space is a photograph­ic display entitled ‘P. Guilloux and F. J. De Gea’s view of Calpe’. It is organised by Calpe philately group in collaborat­ion with the town hall, and is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10.00-14.00 and 16.30-19.00

CONTEMPORA­RY ILLUSTRATI­ON EXHIBITION

Until April 30: Exhibition of contempora­ry illustrati­ons by local artist David Biglands at Librería Europa bookshop, Calle Oscar Esplá 2. Open Monday to Friday 10.00-14.00 and 17.00-20.00 and in the morning only on Saturdays. Admission free

CARTAGENA CONFINED SMILES Until February 28:

‘Confined smiles’ (Sonrisas confinadas), an exhibition by the photograph­er Pablo Sánchez del Valle at El Batel auditorium. A project born out of the need for contact that led the photograph­er to tour the city during the hard months of lockdown, visiting friends and acquaintan­ces who showed their thanks from their balconies and windows. These tours led to 145 images spread over seven large-format panels. Open Monday to Friday from 10.00-13.30 and 17.00-20.00, and Saturdays from 10.00-13.30

150 YEARS OF ELCHE PAINTERS

Until March: Exhibition of paintings by 50 artists linked to the city at the Fundación Mediterrán­eo. The exhibition takes visitors on a journey from Realism to Postmodern art. The Fundación Mediterrán­eo exhibition space is situated at Calle Hospital 18. Open Wednesday to Friday 17.0020.30, Saturdays 11.00-13.30 and 17.00-20.30, and Sundays 11.0013.30. PHOTOESPAÑ­A

Until February 28: A total of 10 streets in the Elche outlying district of Las Bayas, situated between the city and Santa Pola on the coast, are participat­ing in the PhotoEspañ­a #Desdelmeub­alcó campaign, where photograph­s taken in Elche during the 2020 lockdown are exhibited from people’s balconies. The display has been organised with the collaborat­ion of La Baia Jovens youth associatio­n who have selected the streets and

contacted the residents from whose balconies the photograph­s are being hung

PEGO DIARIO DEL VIAJE PALUDÍCOLA (AQUATIC WARBLER’S TRAVEL DIARY)

Until March 13: Exhibition at the Muntanyeta Verda informatio­n centre, situated in the Pego-Oliva natural park, addressing the decline in the population of the most endangered passerine bird in Europe, through habitat restoratio­n for the spring and autumn migration of the aquatic warbler in the Iberian Peninsula. Open every Friday and Wednesday 10.00-13.30. Prior registrati­on not necessary, however visitors will be required to provide their full name, age, mobile phone number, email address and address for Covid-19 tracking reasons. Additional Covid-19 protocols – including the wearing of a mask, social distancing and the use of hydroalcoh­olic hand gel – are also in place. Admission is free

VALENCIA HUNG GALAXY Until April 18:

City of arts and sciences is hosting an ‘open access’ exhibition entitled ‘Hung Galaxy’ by the Taiwanese artist Hung Yi, featuring a total of 14 sculptures inspired by his country’s culture and day-to-day life. Each of the exhibits is noticeable for the bright colours which are traditiona­lly applied to Taiwanese patterns and designs. MAR MENOR EXHIBITION

Permanent exhibition: The flora and fauna of the Mar Menor is on display in a permanent exhibition at the oceanograp­hic centre in Valencia’s city of science and arts.
