Alfaz Fantasy Football League

- By Eric Malpus

Week 23

THE ALFAZ Fantasy Football League almost came to a halt when the 11 Premier League games only produced 23 goals, nine clean sheets, 22 yellow cards (less than the number of goals) and no red ones. Referees were once again in the spotlight with Lee Mason and Stuart Atwell taking centre stage. Brighton was robbed of a goal while according to Ollie United was robbed of their obligatory penalty.

As we head into the last third of the season Clara's Babes maintained their place at the top of the Alfaz Fantasy Football League with a comfortable 38 point lead over Sky Blues. Aggies XI lost ground on the two front runners when they only scored 11 points which have left them 18 points behind 2nd place. The team to watch out for is Chris's Magpies Forever who have moved menacingly into the 6th spot. Their manager Chris won the Fantasy League last season with Promotion Again and nobody has ever won the League two years on the trot. Len's team Do Better are not living up to their name as they are still rooted in the bottom spot 14 points away from Dave's Bogtrotters Rerun.

With Clara's Babes already crowned champions of our Junior League, the fight for runnerup spot goes on with Balotellitubbies, Ginger Ninja and Alisson Wonderland all in the running with only 6 points between them. At the other end of the table, Olly's 11 are still struggling, trailing 48 points behind Andrew's Dolphins.

In our Mark Carter ladies section, Karen's team Ceasar's Blackcats had their tails up when they closed the gap on the leaders' Carol's Sky Blues who still have a healthy 73 point advantage, Lillian's Press Gang have slipped down to 3rd while Catherine's Pompey Hammers are beginning to run out of steam are 4th. Down in the basement, Sandra's Scorers are making good progress and are now just 11 points behind Nikki's Liverpool 94.

With it being a low scoring week, the average score in the Golden Boot League was a meagre 2.61 Old Salfordians, the leaders didn't pick up any points this week while 2nd placed Patangyangkipperbang collected 5 points thanks to Leeds Patrick Bamford who scored in the White's 3-0 win over Southampton. Len's Do Better have not scored for three weeks so it's no wonder they are holding everybody else up at the bottom 9 points away from two teams Bogtrotters Rerun and Armenello.

One of our lady managers top scored this week with Jackie's team Winchester United notching up 38 points in what was a low scoring week. Three teams got the lowest score of only 3 points and they were Burkies Babes, No Hopers and City Link. all four teams will go into our monthly wine draw which I hope to catch up on in the next few weeks.

Manager of the month for February was won by Aggie's XI who just pipped Milton Keynes by one point.

There were two draws in our K.O. Cup competition with Noddy Napals and Penfold Puffins finishing 19-19 as well as Boulevard Blues drawing 22-22 with Le Hombre Rioja. The favourites Aggies XI were knocked out by Marsenal Legends 21-11 while lowest -ranked team Star of the Show progressed by beating Gil's Kippax 24-8. The new favourites Patangyangkipperbang advanced by seeing off Burkies Babes 24-3. All the results will be on our website along with all the League Tables and the latest news. See www.alfazffl.com
