Thinking caps on for street art
CALPE’S clubs and associations have been invited to take part in the fifth annual street art competition and bring a rainbow of colour to the historic old town.
The town hall’s 2021 contest – and its cash prizes – are a bid to encourage participation in a social event enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.
Groups wishing to take part will be awarded a street or space to decorate, which will be selected by lot; to keep matters equal, they will be assigned a similar sized ‘blank canvas’ but allowing for the different geography of the streets themselves.
Once a pitch is assigned, it is envisaged there will be about 20, the associations will present a draft of their proposal to the local authority. They must pay for their own materials and the choice remains with each individual entrant. However,
they must be removable at the end of the exhibition and must not damage any façade, balcony or other structure – and must not create any noise pollution.
The theme for 2021 is ‘colours’ and entries must be assembled in the 10 days from June 18 in coordination with the department of culture. A judging panel will have three days to pick the winners.
Prizes will be awarded based on the artistic value of the work, originality, techniques used, and the use of recycled materials to show a commitment to the environment. Further marks will be won by showing a design’s adaptability to the space and the use of materials.
The full details of the contest, how to take part, deadlines for entry, and a form for the presentation of the proposed creations will be published by the town hall shortly.
