New website for Alfaz association

- By Irena Bodnarec

A BRAND new website has been launched for the Alfaz del Pi voluntary association – www. voluntasocialalfas.com, which explains the work of the food bank, in both Spanish and English. It was presented to the mayor Vicente Arques together with councillors Marisa Cortés (social welfare) and Martine Mertens (foreign residents) at the town hall this week.

Organised by the community group We Love Albir, the work to develop the site was undertaken for free by Feiko Brugman of the Alfaz-based web designers Digiworks.

The association was formed back in 2013, to assist vulnerable people in the community, offering help and assistance in collaboration with the department of social welfare. President Antonio Viso is delighted that the work which they carry out in the community can be shared with everyone and will hopefully encourage more to volunteer. At present they have in the region of 50 volunteers, with an average age of between 55 and 60 years but would like to encourage younger people to join the effort. One of their main projects is assisting with the food bank which is currently supporting some 500 individuals in the town, with a weekly food parcel. The food bank faces an uncertain future and urgently needs your help.

Although in receipt of some

funding from the council, it is surviving on donations from the community and is hugely appreciative of local businesses, individuals and other charities for their donations.

The new website will feature regular news updates and information for those willing to donate clothes, food or money. It will also display photographs of various fundraising events, list generous sponsors and donors plus there is a donate facility where people can safely and easily give money using a bank

debit or credit card.

Dino Trubbianelli, spokesman for We Love Albir said: “We are delighted to have been able to help set up this website for the food bank, with a video in English and Spanish, explaining how people can get involved and support this worthwhile cause.”

The We Love Albir community came together to raise over €12,000 in the run up to Christmas, but the donations have dried up since and they urgently need help once more.
