Albir Anglican Church is back!

- By Elaine Mitchell. Chaplaincy Secretary

EASTER is approaching with amazing services to look forward to. The premises are large enough for social distancing to be adhered to. Masks must be warn throughout and at the moment we are not allowed to gather afterwards – but this will change when restrictions are lifted. We are a friendly congregation and you will receive a warm welcome.

A service of Holy Communion is held in Albir every Sunday at 09.30. You can find us in the centre of Albir, turn up the main hill road, Camino de la Cantera, (quite near the Consum supermarket), signposted Rober Palas Hotel, turn right in front of the hotel and the church (Norwegian seaman’s church) is just inside the next road on the left, Carrer Mart.

When the restrictions are lifted at the Forum Mare Nostrum, we will resume our Thursday services with a healing service on the second Thursday of the month (currently not possible). If you need any further information please telephone our local church wardens, Elaine Mitchell on 636 164 467 or Paul Winter on 602 218 483.

Albir is one of eight congregations in the chaplaincy, from Gandia to El Campello. At the Costa Blanca Anglican Chaplaincy (the Church of England in Spain) website you can find all the other service times, locations, contacts and much more. Visit www.costablanca-anglicanchaplaincy.org and click ABOUT US – Churches and Services.

Always a warm welcome for all.

CARTAGENA city hall in collaboration with the water company Hidrogea are working together on a reforestation project which will result in the planting of almost 4,500 trees within the municipality.

The initiative is being driven by Hidrogea’s social responsibility campaign, which saw it committing to planting one tree for each of their customers who chose to receive their bill electronically, as op“Now

posed to physically.

A meeting of the city’s ‘reforestation committee’ containing representatives from ecological and naturalist groups and municipal politicians and technicians, has taken place in order to decide where the saplings will be planted.

Councillor for sustainability Cristina Mora showed her satisfaction with the number of trees being planted.

She stated: “For every tree we plant 15 kilos of carbon dioxide (CO2) are absorbed. it is up to the groups that make up the ‘reforestation committee’ to decide where these 4,500 trees are to be planted.”

This new initiative complements the Repsol company’s reforestation project which, at its conclusion, will see a total of 4,800 native trees being planted in the Atalaya area of the city, and FCC Business’ already completed scheme of planting 100 pine trees at the Canteras youth hostel.
