Eco-routes return to Torrevieja natural park
THE FREE guided eco-tours of La Mata-Torrevieja natural park are returning after a forced hiatus due to the pandemic.
The popular tours, which have attracted around 1,200 during their time, return on Sunday (March 14), with a ‘family route’ that gives people the opportunity to learn about the park’s natural and cultural heritage, in a fun and enjoyable way.
Following this, on March 27, there is an ornithological tour to introduce participants to bird watching and teach them about some of the park’s emblematic species, such as storks, avocets, common shelducks, flamingos and stone curlews.
A new feature of the ornithological route is that it is being streamed. This is in order to transmit live images captured through a telescope to participants’ smartphones or tablets. This does away with the need for participants having to use the same telescope and the potential for contagion.
This feature also enables people who are unable to participate, due to the reduced capacity, to see these images from the comfort of their own home.
Both routes are guided, last around four hours, and are in English and Spanish.
The capacity for both activities is a maximum of 30 people, split between two groups.
The tours will continue until May, with the family route taking place on Sunday, April 11 and Saturday May 8, and the ornithological outings leaving on Sundays, April 25 and May 23.
Registration is essential and is currently taking place online at www.turismodetorre vieja.com/ecorutas or by telephoning the municipal tourism office on 96 570 34 33.
It is recommended that participants
wear comfortable clothing, suitable footwear, and bring food and water, a cap, binoculars and camera.
All tours start from the park interpretation centre, situated just off of the N-332 road at La Mata, at 10.00.
The wearing of masks, use of hydroalcoholic gel, and social distancing is essential.
