Results of the Copa de Escocia Competition held in Oliva Nova Golf on Tuesday, April 27. ON a nice and fresh Tuesday morning for golf at Oliva Nova, we had 20 players teeing up for the next ‘major’ of the year The Copa de Escocia which was a medal competition. Still a fairly small turnout, everyone looked like they enjoyed themselves.
There were a couple of things that we must mention this week. The first was a fantastic air shot on his first hole by David O’Conner. It didn’t seem to make too much difference to his score, although he might have improved on his sixth place if he hadn’t had one!
The second was watching Peter Hanks wade into the lake adjacent to the 16th and try to play his shot to the green. His first effort fell shot but not to be deterred he waded a bit further in and splashed out on to the green for his third shot. It then took him a little while to dry himself off before he could take his putt, which I think he missed but he said he holed it for a four. It is also good to hear that many more of our members have had a least one jab in the arm and many will have had both Covid vaccinations by the end of May.
This week, for a change, there were two twos recorded, so no funds for the captain’s charity this week. Both of the twos were on the 16th, first captain Derek Lindley holed from 1.28m for his two and the second two was Stevie Patton. Nearest the pins, went to Brian Barden on the 5th hole, where his second shot finished 7.85m from the pin. And, on the 16th captain Derek beat the field with his tee shot finishing 1.28m from the pin.
There was a little bit of confusion over the scores at the end but after a recount Peter Ketteringham was declared the winner with a net 72 well done.
The winners this week were;
1st Peter Ketteringham - net 72
2nd Celia Cronin – net 75
3rd Brian Barden – net 75
4th Malcolm Wise – net 77
5th Stevie Patton – net 78
6th David O’Conner – net 80
Well done to all this week’s winners. Next week we will be playing a pairs
