Investments and tax breaks vow for Jávea
Councillor presents breakdown of town hall budget
JÁVEA town hall has given more information about its proposed spending plan for 2022.
One of the eye-catching points is the ‘general reduction’ of property tax (IBI) by 17%.
Councillor for the treasury Ximo Segarra said they are also freezing rubbish collection charges even though the service has been extended.
“While prices in general are rising we are reducing taxes in Jávea,” stated Sr Segarra.
They are able to do this because the council does not have debts and is not paying interest to banks, after several years of responsible management of the public finances, he added.
The councillor revealed that they have a €15 million investment plan which will be covered by a budget surplus from previous years.
This will allow them to
carry out a series of projects and employment plans, he noted.
Investments include €1.2m for the municipal swimming pool, the ‘adaptation’ of the
Primer Montañar beach and the refurbishment of the lighthouse building at Cabo San Antonio.
The council will also be able to carry out resurfacing work on streets, renew street lighting in El Tosalet and spruce up children’s play parks, amongst other projects.
Spending on social policies will go up by 20% to €300,000, which could be increased in line with need, explained the councillor.
There is also a €300,000 allocation to help out self-employed residents and small and medium-sized businesses.
Sr Segarra said that all grants to clubs and local associations will be continued ‘to help them in these uncertain times’.
The draft of the budget has been handed to opposition parties so they can make their suggestions and proposals, he said.
It will have to be approved at a full council meeting in the coming weeks.
“I hope to get the support of most of the council for this budget,” he stated.
