Movers and Shakers launch on the Costa Blanca

-

THE FORMER Huntington’s Disease Association relaunched on Tuesday, January 11, as the Association of Movers and Shakers Costa Blanca.

The new association will now offer support for people living in Spain, and their families affected by ataxia, motor neuron disease, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease as well as continuing to support people and their families affected by Huntington’s disease.

President, Marion Smith said: “This is an exciting new phase in the development of our charity. With the support of

our volunteers and a very generous community during the last five years we have been able to provide friendship and help with small grants towards the purchase of aids to improve daily living, or for time-limited respite care.”

“The association relies entirely on donations and money raised at our monthly charity events to assist our members, but by collaborating with the

community and local organisations we are now able to extend the support we offer to those affected by these other neurological diseases. We also plan to offer friendship and support to Spanish people within our area,” she added.

At the launch Sarah-Jane Morris, British Consul in Alicante expressed her thanks to the association and to other voluntary organisations who

offer vital help to the expatriot community living in Spain.

The Movers and Shakers group meets every Friday at O’Briens Bar in El Raso urbanisation, Guardamar del Segura, from 13.00-15.00.
