Youth lifesaving course

TORREVIEJA town hall youth department is organising a free lifeguard course for beaches, swimming pools and natural spaces.

The course runs from February to May and is 215 hours long.

Young people aged 18 to 30 who want to work as a lifeguard in the Valencia region can use the course to obtain the principal skills and techniques necessary to protect the security of users of aquatic installati­ons and attend to health situations that they may encounter.

Module one of the course runs from February 23 to March 15, with the exception of March 7-8, and takes place Monday to Friday from 16.0021.00.

Module two is from March 16 to May 3 (with the exception of April 13-15 and 18), and takes place on the same days and times as module one.

The schedule includes social skills and employabil­ity (obligatory 65 hours), lifeguardi­ng and first aid, aquatic lifeguardi­ng, beachbased themes, and basic training using external automatic and semi-automatic defibrilla­tors.

The diploma awarded after successful­ly completing the course enables the holder to work as a lifeguard on beaches, and at swimming pools and water parks within the Valencia region.

Applicants must be aged over 18 years old, have good physical fitness, be able to swim, be registered and active in the state Garantía Juvenil employment scheme, participat­e in the integral qualificat­ion and employment programme (PICE), and have undertaken Orientació­n Vocacional.
