RBL certificates presented in Alicante and Orihuela Costa
By Kevin Reardon, chairman Orihuela Costa and District Branch of the RBL
ON Monday, February 21, brothers Jonathan and Mark Knight were presented with the district chairman’s certificate of appreciation at Castalla Internacional by the district chairman Jack Kemp.
Jonathan completed a cycle challenge by cycling from Tidworth in the UK to Orihuela Costa covering a distance of 2092 kilometres, his brother Mark accompanied him, providing safety cover and planning during this gruelling challenge.
Over £1400 was raised by the brothers for the 2021 Poppy Appeal.
On completion of the event Jonathan submitted an application in support of the Alicante Branch for a donation of £2000 from the Royal Warrant Holders Association Charity Fund. Jonathan, the director and owner of Knights Tailoring Limited is a holder of the Royal Warrant for Businesses and the award was approved.
Both Jonathan and Mark are members of the Alicante Branch and the Orihuela Costa and District Branch of the Royal British Legion here in Spain.
I am sure that all members of Spain District North will join the district chairman in thanking the brothers for raising the sum of over £3,400 to support our beneficiaries here in Spain.
On the previous, Thursday certificates of appreciation had also been presented at the Orihuela Costa and District Branch to secretary Jean Heald and treasurer Malcolm Cavendish, for their outstanding service over many years to the branch and the Royal
British Legion.
The chairman spoke of Jean’s excellent management of branch administration and her efforts to keep people informed and aware during the Covid-19 lockdown, while of Malcolm, he highlighted the fact that because of his dedication, the branch accounts are now probably amongst the best kept in Spain.
The Orihuela Costa Branch of the RBL meets on the third Thursday of every month at the Olympia Restaurant in Mil Palmeras starting at 19.30. You do not need a military background to join or to join in with any of the branch social gatherings which can be found at: http://branches.british legion.org.uk/branches/orihu ela-costa
