ALICANTE ETRUSCAN AT THE MARQ

Extended until March 20: The ‘enigmatic Etruscan smile’ characteri­stic of the funeral urns from this pre-Roman civilisati­on is one of the biggest attraction­s to an ‘ambitious’ exhibition at Alicante archaeolog­ical museum (MARQ), featuring 150 exhibits from Italy. The exhibition contains cremation urns, sarcophagi, funerary stelas, furnishing­s, high reliefs, helmets and other military objects, and gold and silver jewellery from the ninth to first centuries BC. ALICANTE IN HARMONY. EMILIO VARELA AND HIS CONTEMPORA­RIES

Permanent exhibition: Featuring works by Emilio Varela, Lorenzo Aguirre, Rigoberto Soler, Vicente Albarranch and Gastón Castelló. To highlight Varela’s works the exhibition curators selected paintings containing the province’s ‘luminous landscapes, recognisab­le urban views of the city of Alicante, extraordin­ary self-portraits, interiors, still lifes and portraits’ marked by the artist’s ‘original and unmistakab­le style’. EBERHARD SCHLOTTER

Until June: Schlotter foundation exhibition entitled Centenario-Etapas de su vida artística (centenary-stages of his artistic life) at Casa Toni el Fuster exhibition space. The display contains works from the collection of the family of the German artist, Eberhard Schlotter, and is a celebratio­n of the 100th anniversar­y of his birth. A catalogue has been produced to complement the exhibition, which is open Tuesday to Friday from 10.00-14.00 and 18.00-21.00, and Saturdays from 10.30-13.30

THEATRE, YOURS IS PURE THEATRE

Until February 28: Exhibition at the culture centre paying homage to one of the most important people in history of the town’s amateur dramatics scene, Antonio Ferrer ‘El cartero’. The photograph­ic exhibition, features images from throughout the Calpe actor’s career. Throughout January and February there will also be screenings at the Salon Blau of four of the works Sr Ferrer acted in, starting at 20.30. February 24: ‘La mort del músic’
