Briton faces charges for driving wrong way on AP-7

Two women suffer serious injuries in separate incident in Altea

A 44-YEAR-old British woman who was driving the wrong way along the AP-7 motorway tested positive for cocaine and was found to be three times over the legal limit for alcohol when she was stopped in Altea, according to the Guardia Civil.

The emergency services were alerted by a motorist about the situation which was putting lives in danger.

Traffic officers based in Benidorm immediatel­y headed out onto the trans-Mediterran­ean highway and were able to stop the motorist at kilometre 638 in Altea, in the old toll booth zone.

According to a force spokespers­on, the officers noted that the woman was showing clear signs of having consumed alcohol, which was confirmed when they carried out tests.

Her case is being processed by a judge in Benidorm.

A press release from the Guardia Civil states that she faces charges for driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, and dangerous driving.

N-332 smash

In a separate incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning in Altea, two women were seriously injured in an accident on the N-332.

The regional emergency services disclosed that two vehicles were involved in a collision which was reported at 00.30, close to the Altea Hills urbanisati­on.

The provincial fire service attended along with Guardia Civil and paramedics.

A spokesman for the fire service reported that two women were trapped in their car.

Firefighte­rs had to use cutting equipment to extract them.

They received medical attention at the scene before being taken to hospital.

The road had to be closed during the rescue operation, which was not completed until 02.41.
